Endemic. Ir.-Tur. element. Apparently most nearly related to P. gentian-oides but differing by the sulcate scape which suggests some affinity with sect. Arnoglossum, especially P. lanceolata, which has similar leaves but only 5, deep sulci.
Sect. Arnoglossum Decne. Annual or perennial. Leaves lanceolate. Scapes sul-cate; spikes dense. Anterior sepals connate. Seeds 2, hilum side concave.
